一九二四年（民国十三年），汕美（尾）嘉德女校落成开教，她是基督教汕尾教会兴办的女子学校，首任校长是人称董姑娘的董玛丽教士，原址在现在的汕尾人民医院。

1947 教堂内景与聚会情况，汕尾，中国，一九四七 图中进行的追悼会是基督教的追思会，悼念兰大卫牧师。清光绪廿三年（1898年），英国传教士兰大卫牧师来汕尾港发展基督教（新教），在新兴街直巷（后称礼拜堂巷）新扩建一座礼拜堂。1937年，英国传教士董玛利在英教士住宅旁侧再建一座新型西式住宅（俗称姑娘楼），并改建汕尾礼拜堂，大门朝向新兴街，装修堂内讲坛，当时汕尾信徒有700多人，教会活动相当活跃。兰大卫牧师当时在汕尾基督教会是极其受人尊敬的一代奠基人物。

汕尾教会学校医院职员欢送董姑娘（董玛丽传教士）回国合影，汕尾，中国，一九五零解放后，有关宗教活动受限，教会医院、学校开始慢慢交归国有管理，部分传教士回国。

汕尾私立作嘉中学附属小学（作嘉中学是原作矶中学和嘉德女校合并而成的，为现在第三小学，分教处则为第一小学/继彭小学）第一届毕业生暨全体教师留影（前排正中是董姑娘董玛丽教士），照片拍摄于一九四九年六月。一九五零年作嘉中学与坎白中学（由汕尾盐场创建于一九四二年）合并为海丰第二中学，后来改名为汕尾中学。

抗日战争时期，由于中、英、美、苏联盟抗日，传教士天团全部撤离汕尾回国，福音医院和浸信会礼拜堂被日本鬼子拆毁，教会迫于无奈停止了活动，学校停办。

抗日战争胜利后，1947年董姑娘、卫戴良等重来汕尾，并增派女团成员殷恩华姑娘。作矶中学与嘉德女校合并，改名为“汕尾作嘉学校”，殷姑娘担任校长。后来传教士天团把治疗站重建扩充为汕尾福音医院，福音医院为培养当地西医人才，建院后有开设当时医学上的"新东方"-----西医医学学习班。1950年，传教士天团终完成光辉职责回国。1951年底，汕尾福音医院和作嘉学校改名为“”汕尾人民医院“和“汕尾第三小学”。
